The Amash amendment to defund the NSA's domestic surveillance program nearly passed with a vote of 205-217 in the House of Representatives.

But this isn't over yet.

With just one days' notice tens of thousands of people urged their representatives in Congress to oppose the NSA's surveillance programs.

The majority of Democrats and 94 Republicans voted against surveillance despite lobbying by the NSA and the White House urging against the amendment.

The tide is turning against domestic surveillance.
